Siam Country Club, Old Course in Pattaya is an outstanding golf course which ranks with the best in Thailand which was completely revamped in 2007 by Schmidt & Curley Design. It’s a private members golf club so start times at the weekends are at a premium.
The Old Course has hosted numerous international tournaments and following the redesign it’s now the permanent venue for the LPGA Honda Classic. The redesign did not dramatically change the course but the grass was totally replanted and several bunkers were added to give it a more modern feel. It benefits greatly from the many mature trees which line the fairways. Typical of the course is the iconic 15th, a par 4 with a creek crossing the fairway and a huge tree that can easily obstruct a wayward tee shot. You can play short of the water but you are then faced with a long approach to a well-protected green which like most of the greens on this course run very fast. The three finishing holes offer no respite so you had better pay respect to the large Buddha which guards the 9th green and hope that it brings you luck.
